Boston Celtics SG/SF Theo Pinson

Theo Pinson started his career with the Brooklyn Nets (two seasons) and then took his talents across the East River to join the New York Knicks last year.

While he was an integral part of the Nets bench celebrations during a season where D’Angelo Russell led the underdog bunch to the postseason, his shot has been a work in progress since he left the UNC Tar Heels and went undrafted in 2018.

Of course, Pinson did win a collegiate title while at North Carolina, so clearly his presence on a team is helpful in some capacity. At Chapel Hill, he averaged six points, four rebounds and three assists throughout his four-year playing career.

In terms of what he brings to the current day Boston Celtics, he is a decent-sized wing that is well put together. He is a good utility guy, but Ime Udoka’s roster is pretty stacked to the brim with talent.

It’s going to take a great preseason showing (or injuries) to get Pinson in a position to be regularly contributing at the beginning of the 2021-22 season.

Like Juwan Morgan, Pinson’s best prospects of making the roster will be if Grant Williams get cut. Finding a role for Pinson is far from impossible, but again, he’s going to need to show a lot more than he has if he wants to be one of the final 17 guys that survives training camp cuts.
