Boston Celtics PF Juwan Morgan

A traditional bruising power forward with the ability to finish at the rim sporting spectacular flair, Juwan Morgan is a dark horse for one of the team’s final roster spots.

His best chance at getting minutes in 2021-22 will be to show Ime Udoka that he is ahead of his fellow 2019 rookie Grant Williams in his development. While Williams was drafted with a first-round pick, he failed to prove playable for much of the C’s first-round postseason gentleman’s sweep at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. ‘

There is a sharp contrast between the style of Williams and Morgan. Williams is more ground-bound and switchable defensively, whereas Morgan is an above-the-rim type of player that is better suited for fast-paced play.

Williams proved in his rookie season that he can make smart plays, but he has had difficulties contributing outside of a small-ball 5 role. Morgan may run into that same type of problem, but down this low on the depth chart, the question becomes what can you contribute in a pinch.

Morgan may be able to do more at this point should his name be called, but he’ll have to prove that in training camp. Williams has the advantage of having a guaranteed contract, whereas Morgan will have to gun for one of the remaining two-way slots…or play so well that Brad Stevens has no choice but to move Williams to make room for him.
