Realistic Boston Celtics trade targets with the Evan Fournier TPE: Derrick White

The San Antonio Spurs are in a very weird place as an organization. They completely restructured their team this year, and it seems as though they’ll enter a full rebuild.

That being said, it’s impossible to know what Gregg Popovich has up his sleeve. There’s always a small chance he chooses to push for the playoffs.

Regardless, Derrick White would be a great player for the Boston Celtics to target. He’s not necessarily a veteran, but with Dejounte Murray at the helm, the Spurs may be willing to trade him.

At 27 years old, White fits into Boston’s timeline fairly well. He has the ability to play both the point guard and shooting guard, so he brings some great on-court flexibility, too.

Despite not being a great three-point shooter, White has made strives toward improvement in that department. On a large number of attempts last season (6.8), White shot 34.8% from deep.

He’s also a solid defender and a good playmaker. White averaged 15.4 points last season, so he’s just a very well-rounded player who could help with guard depth.

The only downside to dealing for White is that it hurts Boston’s financial flexibility next season. He is on the books for the next four seasons, with his salary getting to up around $18 million in the final year.

However, this could also be seen as a good thing, as White could be used in a potential sign-and-trade package for Beal. Either way, White is a solid player who would be able to help Boston win.
