If you were one of the many NBA observers that felt that former Boston Celtics MVP candidate Isaiah Thomas would have been a good fit for the Dallas Mavericks, you are not alone.

If you are also someone that believes Thomas still has something left to give the NBA, you should be happy that reports of him signing with CSKA are false.

Thomas himself refuted the report.

Per his verified Twitter page:

Thomas has bounced around the league the last few years, playing short stints in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Denver, Washington, and New Orleans since being traded by ex-GM Danny Ainge back in 2017. He hasn’t found a home anywhere, showing flashes of his former offensive burst but proving unplayable due to being unable to exert the same effort on the defensive end of the floor…likely to do with the various injuries throughout the years all over.

This offseason, he has been worked out by both the Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks, but both teams opted for other backups instead.

Los Angeles went the ex-Laker veteran route and brought back Rajon Rondo, while Dallas signed 23-year-old Frank Ntilikina off the free agent scrap heap instead of the 32-year-old Thomas.

Until Thomas officially retires, there will always be a large swath of Boston Celtics fans clamoring for IT to once again wear green. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens will oblige, but it certainly doesn’t hurt the cause.

Thomas never got time on the floor alongside Cs superstar Jayson Tatum and got limited time with Jaylen Brown in the 2016 #3 pick’s rookie season. If those guys were to ever want an IT return, it’d further the cause exponentially.

Time is the only thing that will tell where Thomas’ tale is headed.
