De’Aaron Fox as the long-term answer at point guard for the Boston Celtics

Dennis Schroder’s presence on the Boston Celtics in 2021-22 will be as a second unit mercenary looking to help the team put points on the board and help line his pockets with all the money he lost out on this offseason when he settled for the taxpayer’s MLE and not the $120 million he was looking for.

Schroder isn’t going to be the team’s long-term answer at the point guard, and if you ask me, neither is Marcus Smart. While Smart is a skilled facilitator, his tendencies still lean towards hero ball. He isn’t programmed to be a pass-first player.

De’Aaron Fox, on the other hand, is a passer by trade and has always had the numbers to back it up. His rookie-year assist numbers are parallel to Smart’s year-eight totals.

What makes Fox a possibility is the presence of Tyrese Haliburton in Sacramento’s backcourt. If the second-year man can build on per-36 minute averages of 15 points, six assists, and four rebounds, perhaps Fox won’t be long for Sac-Town.

That’d be a best case scenario for both him and the Celtics if the Kings were interested in Boston’s available youth.
