Boston Celtics PF/C Bruno Fernando

Something tells me Enes Kanter didn’t choose to sign with the Boston Celtics a second time just to be glued to the bench. In his first tenure, Kanter established himself as capable of a few different niche tasks that move the needle for the Cs moving forward.

One was scoring in a pinch. Last year’s Celtics seemed like they could have used Kanter’s post-scoring at times when the synergy was lacking.

The Turkish big was also an even match for Joel Embiid when the Philadelphia 76ers were the opponent. Kanter’s physicality and willingness to dig his body into the defender was always effective in throwing Embiid off his game.

All of these realities make it difficult for Bruno Fernando to carve out a role. Robert Williams has been and continues to be a priority, and Al Horford will definitely get time at the 5 as well.

Kanter will be the third center off the bench, and Fernando may once again find himself behind veterans and unable to reach the hardwood on a team with postseason ambitions and a shortage of opportunity for the Maryland product.
