Boston Celtics: 5 offseason moves we never saw coming
The Boston Celtics bring back Enes Kanter
There were a few reasons why Enes Kanter wasn’t on our radar this offseason before he shockingly returned to Beantown.
The first was that his first tenure, which spanned a single season cut short and restarted by a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, wasn’t exactly fruitful for either party. Kanter averaged his third-lowest career point total and was not deemed useful enough for any significant minutes against the Toronto Raptors or Miami Heat in the 2020 postseason.
Secondly, it was Brad Stevens himself that couldn’t find time on the floor for the former lottery pick. Now Kanter’s role is Ime Udoka’s rotation quandary to figure out.
The Boston Celtics extend Josh Richardson
Extending Marcus Smart may not have been a move loved by everyone, but it was something that could have been predicted before the summer began.
You’re simply a bold-faced liar if you thought that Brad Stevens would extend Josh Richardson after acquiring him in a deal for Moses Brown–after acquiring him as part of the package returned for Kemba Walker–this offseason.
Richardson may end up being Bradley Beal bait, but there’s a chance he sticks around for at least two seasons as well.
