Tweener big Christian Wood joins crowded Boston Celtics frontcourt

The Brooklyn Nets are loaded at the center position, so perhaps Brad Stevens could do everything possible to match the firepower of the team that knocked him out of the postseason after he was hired following a massive trade between the Nets and Celtics.

Christian Wood is the best gettable big–assuming the Houston Rockets would still prefer flipping veterans for youth–if Stevens is willing to part with one of his recent draft picks.

Payton Pritchard could be of interest to Houston, considering the lack of a long-term role for John Wall and D.J. Augustin. Augustin should get some interest from other teams, and it’s shocking he’s still in Houston at this point. Perhaps the Rockets see him playing a mentor role. Wall’s deal is tougher to move given his 2021-22 player option. A buyout may be necessary there.

The expiring deal of Juan Hernangomez could be used in the deal, as could Grant Williams as a salary throw-in to consolidate roster spots to acquire Wood.

Wood may be too good for a team with no intentions of seriously competing next year. Getting him off the roster would be addition by subtraction based on the Rockets’ goals.
