Boston Celtics: 3 trades to consolidate Cs roster
Why the Boston Celtics do it
The most worrisome thought about the 2021-22 Boston Celtics season is the idea of Dennis Schroder not fitting in and causing locker-room friction before being dealt by the trade deadline to a team in dire need of a starting point guard.
The best way to hedge that uneasy feeling is to grab a potential replacement, and Frank Jackson is one of the more unheralded diamonds in the rough Brad Stevens could pursue.
While Jackson’s assist numbers leave a lot to be desired, his shooting does not: he shot 40% on just under four attempts from the 3-point line last season. Jackson is essentially what the Cs wish Carsen Edwards was, and has a team option next season, giving whoever employs him flexibility this season and next offseason.
Why the Detroit Pistons do it
Detroit is probably in a better place next season than Houston is due to the presence of Cade Cunningham and the step forward Jerami Grant took in 2020-21.
Even still, they can afford to take on a draft pick and roll the dice on a pair of role players that could well find meaning playing with the spectacular Cunningham.
