Why the Boston Celtics do it

D.J. Augustin is not the most heralded floor general in the NBA, but since 2008 he has been one of the more solid starting point guard options after being selected with the #9 pick out of Texas.

Augustin helped lead the Orlando Magic to the postseason during their two-year flirtation with the postseason after a six-year absence following the Dwight Howard trade. He started last year off with the eventual NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks but was dealt to the Houston Rockets midseason.

It doesn’t get much worse than that move south in a season the Bucks were all-in and the Rockets were the opposite. But Boston could provide him a home where he can compete for a starting spot, but at worst, compete on a team that’s…willing to compete at all in 2021-22.

Why the Houston Rockets do it

We are very early into the Houston Rockets’ rebuild following the subsequent deals of Russell Westbrook and James Harden over the past ten months.

Unless Jalen Green contributes at a star level from the jump, they should still be looking to stockpile draft picks.
