Boston Celtics target #2: Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City Thunder

Brad Stevens has a ton of weapons on the wing, but in this day and age, that might be a very strategic move.

Small-ball has been a prevalant entity in the NBA since the Miami Heat won championships with Shane Battier, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh in the frontcourt and further became part of the culture when the Golden State Warriors deployed Draymond Green as a small-ball center to great success.

With Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, and Aaron Nesmith all potentially tabbed for roles this coming year, throwing in an elite defender who was instrumental in the OKC Thunder’s rise to the #5 seed in 2019-20 who may be out of place on a tanker could be worth Carsen Edwards’ roster spot.

Luguentz Dort is a sturdy wing who could bang in the post with bigger forwards and even some centers. In small-ball lineups or even as injury insurance, it wouldn’t take long for Dort to provide a ton of value.

A proven winner, Dort makes sense from a culture standpoint because of the uphill climb it took for him to even receive a guaranteed contract. Ime Udoka would probably love his story and click with the Arizona State product if Brad Stevens can land him.
