Reasons to love the extension of Marcus Smart No. 3) Keeping the culture around

It may be cliche to say at this point, but Marcus Smart is the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics.

It’s just impossible to argue against that statement.

This season will be his eighth year with the team, and he has been a fan-favorite for the whole time. He truly embodies what it means to be a Celtic.

His defense is one thing, but his innate ability to leave it all on the court is another. Celtics fans want to see their team do everything they can to win, and Smart does all that and more.

He is always diving for loose balls, getting into the face of defenders, and wreaking havoc on the floor. Even better than that, he’s not afraid to get into an altercation if he needs to.

However, what’s even more impressive is how far he’s come as a player. Though he will get into it with another player if necessary, Boston Celtics fans have watched him grow and mature to the point where he is breaking up fights instead of starting them.

Smart has been the perfect fit on this team for years from a culture standpoint, and that aspect of the game is severely underrated.

Even the things he does off the court are amazing. He holds basketball camps, gives back to the community, and has just completely embraced Boston as his second home.

This extension will allow him to stay in the city for a long time, and, hopefully, he can be here for the rest of his career.

The Boston Celtics signing Marcus Smart to an extension is the best thing they have done all offseason.
