Boston Celtics’ standout #2: Juhann Begarin

Juhann Begarin has shown promise in his first summer league. Originally thought of as just a draft and stash second-round pick, the 18-year-old Frenchmen wanted to play for Boston in Vegas this season. In four games, he has shown more NBA skills than most could imagine, specifically on the defensive end.

In 30 minutes, Begarin recorded eight points on 4-of-10 shooting, three rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. At 6’5″ 185 lbs, Begarin has the potential to become a productive switchable wing that can occasionally hit the three. His shot definitely needs some work, shooting 3-of-12 from downtown over all four games, but his mechanics and mid-range game are relatively smooth.

On the other end, Juhann was able to guard multiple positions on the floor, challenging almost every shot that was put up, including this ridiculous chase-down block. That kind of athleticism is what makes Begarin such an interesting prospect, and has already translated to an effective transition game.

Although Begarin may not be on the Boston Celtics roster for the 2021-22 season, both Brad Stevens and Cs fans have to be happy with the second-round pick so far.
