Tremont Waters joins Toronto’s backcourt

The Toronto Raptors lost their long-time pillar at point guard when former NBA Champion Kyle Lowry decided to take his talents to South Beach to join Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo in their pursuit of a title. With Miami narrowly missing out on the 2019-20 bubble title and following that up with an underwhelming dud of a postseason in 2021, they are now armed with as much talent as they have had since the LeBron James Big 3 era.

The point guard they replaced him with doesn’t exactly sound excited about the prospect of being up north long-term. Check out Goran Dragic’s initial reaction to being dealt to Toronto, per Complex:

"The 35-year-old point guard, who Toronto received as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Miami Heat for Kyle Lowry, recently told a Slovenian news outlet that the 6ix isn’t where he’d ideally like to be next season. “Toronto is not my preferred destination. I have higher ambitions. We’ll see,” Dragic reportedly said in Slovenian."

With Fred VanVleet doing some of his best work alongside another ball-handler, it wouldn’t hurt to take a flier on Waters for the Raptors.
