Boston Celtics: 5 possible starting lineups after Dennis Schroder signing
Boston Celtics possible starting lineup #2: Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Robert Williams
In keeping with the oversized frontcourt theme, the Cs would be simply inserting Marcus Smart in Dennis Schroder’s starting spot.
The Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy reported that Boston had actually offered Schroder the taxpayer MLE in hopes he’d take it and be a backup to Smart:
"“He’s only interested in one year, and then getting back out there,” said the source, who added that Schroder has also run into another problem — the sudden lack of available starting point guard jobs. The Celtics have pitched Schroder the idea of backing up Marcus Smart next season."
Clearly, Schroder as a backup has been discussed.
Boston Celtics possible starting lineup #3: Marcus Smart, Josh Richardson, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams
This would be the most defensively-focused group the Cs can put on the floor. The two-way potential is vast, particularly if Josh Richardson can return to his Miami Heat form.
Dennis Schroder and Al Horford makes for one hell of a one-two punch in the second unit. This would be the most balanced lineup arrangement Ime Udoka could have in 2021-22, with the five best athletes on the floor to start games.
