Boston Celtics: 2 Summer League Cs that could surprise in 2021-22
Boston Celtics potential 2021 Summer League surprise in 2021-22: Yam Madar
For anyone that saw Yam Madar in action yesterday, they shouldn’t be surprised by this pick. The Israeli guard flashed Alex Caruso-esque defensive doggedness, but he has even longer limbs and has more finesse than the hyper-athletic Caruso.
He looks like he can contribute in a limited capacity in 2021-22 off the pine. Payton Pritchard solidified his spot as the young floor general of the second unit with his 5:0 assist-turnover ratio but Madar is versatile enough to man the 2 guard role as well.
His ability to break down the defense off the dribble can open up opportunities for all of the Cs young bigs, and he has good enough awareness on the floor to get easy points on backdoor cuts as well.
What works in Madar’s favor this season is that Ime Udoka has no rapport with any of the C’s young guns. Madar could shine in the Summer League and in training camp and find himself getting minutes from the jump.
In fact, shining in Summer League could have Brad Stevens using a portion of the MLE to bring Madar into the fold this coming season. That could be why he hasn’t used it yet.
