Free-agent big man Boston Celtics could pursue with MLE #2: LaMarcus Aldridge

During the 2020-21 season, there were talks of Boston pursuing a deal with the San Antonio Spurs for their multi-time All-Star big man LaMarcus Aldridge. Talks ranged from including the Alamo City taking on Kemba Walker’s deal to Tristan Thompson making his way to the Spurs instead, but all three have been relocated since.

While Walker is in New York and Thompson in Sacramento now, Alridge is nearing his end destination on the road to recovery after being forced to medically retire from the Brooklyn Nets with a heart issue. The long-time Trail Blazer and Spur is close to completing his comeback and is looking for a new NBA home.

The Cs could qualify as an interesting landing spot given the fact that he could compete for a starting job from the jump. Aldridge could be the sole big in the lineup or even lineup alongside Al Horford in a switchable 4-5 arrangement.

Considering his 3-point shot has transformed into a reliable option, Aldridge is a solid option even if his health concerns alter his style of play. His familiarity with Ime Udoka in San Antonio makes Boston a dark horse contender to sign him.
