Boston Celtics sign Paul Millsap for the MLE

If Brad Stevens preserves the MLE after a Dennis Schroder sign-and-trade, a veteran like Paul Millsap would have to consider a chance to contribute as a veteran on a team that is close to being put over the top.

Millsap won’t be returning to the Denver Nuggets, and it’s not exactly hard to see why. JaMychal Green essentially functions in the role he once filled, and Aaron Gordon’s presence furthers the redundancy of Millsap on the roster.

Millsap is still highly useful and could still provide defense and shooting much in the way Marcus Morris used to for the Cs. The difference between 2018 and now is that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown can handle an even heavier workload, making the contributions that Marcus Morris had to that team less pressing.

Millsap would be a second unit power forward and he’d be back in action in the frontcourt alongside former Atlanta Hawks partner in crime Al Horford. Having a big like Millsap capable of shooting, rebounding, and bodying up in the paint would be invaluable to a Cs team that lacks much physicality down low outside of Robert Williams. Even then, Williams’ health record dictates that insurance like Millsap is a wise investment.
