Boston Celtics morale-boosting free agent #3: Isaiah Thomas

If you want to simply boost the morale of Celtics fans, Brad Stevens can consider signing either Aron Baynes or Dennis Schroder.

If he wants to resurrect beautiful memories of some of his best days as head coach of the Boston Celtics and bring fans roaring back to the team with unwavering enthusiasm, Stevens can bring back Isaiah Thomas.

A Thomas return has become mythical because of how long of a road it has been for him since the team traded him back four summers ago. Promising but ultimately unfulfilling stints in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Denver, Washington, and New Orleans leave the door open for one of the most celebrated returns the world would ever see from a role player.

Let me run that one back, actually. I’m not typecasting Thomas into being just a role player, because that’s the same mistake people made when he was picked #60 in the 2011 NBA Draft, signed to a deal to be the backup, and when he was traded to the Cs in 2015.

The sky could be the limit for the Celtics with IT back playing where he feels comfortable and giving the Jays that necessary third shot-creator on offense.

Even if I’m being overly optimistic, optimism is still the only result of a potential Thomas signing.

What Cs may be off the roster soon?. dark. Next
