The Boston Celtics need to improve their shooting

Getting Al Horford was a great move to improve the shooting for the Boston Celtics, but he alone cannot bring one of the worst spaced teams in the NBA into the upper percentile.

On the wings, the Cs are set to rely heavily on Aaron Nesmith to generate their 3-pointers which he may be capable of doing, but it’s unwise to rely so heavily on a second-year player like that.

It’s the same deal in the backcourt — Payton Pritchard will be heavily relied upon to cash in triples, and even though he’s more than capable of doing so, it’s unwise to be this reliant on him.

If the Boston Celtics are set on preserving cap space for next summer, fine, but leaving your two franchise cornerstones out to dry for a whole season is the wrong move.

There’s plenty of options out there to help the Boston Celtics improve their shooting.

In free agency alone Lou Williams, Dennis Schroder, Matt Thomas, and Reggie Jackson are all still waiting to be picked up. If the rumors are true and the Boston Celtics ownership is unwilling to pay the tax this season, guys like Jackson and Schroder may be out of the race because they’ll demand at least the full MLE, but that still leaves two other names.

On the trade market, Joe Ingles fits the glove perfectly.

He shot 45 percent from deep in last year’s regular-season and 41 percent in the playoffs, yet Utah intends to trade him. The Cs should be jumping out of their shoes to bring in a shooter like Ingles.

The time to act is now.
