Why Boston Celtics could trade for Beal No. 2) Enes Kanter signing could be setting up for something big

The Boston Celtics signed Enes Kanter to a one-year, veteran minimum deal. The signing confused many Cs fans, but it could have bigger implications than some think.

With Al Horford and Robert Williams on the roster, signing Kanter seems like a weird move.

However, what if Brad Stevens signed him because he knew he’d be losing one of his two centers this offseason.

If Boston pulled off a trade for Beal, one of Williams or Horford would certainly have to be in that trade. Horford would be a great way to match salary, whereas Williams could be a great asset for the Wizards to target.

Trading away Horford would be the easiest way for the Celtics to match Beal’s salary. Meanwhile, Williams showed a ton of promise last year, and Washington would be foolish not to ask for him in a trade for Beal.

What if signing Kanter is just a way for Brad Stevens to secure a rotational center for the Celtics? Could he know something everyone else doesn’t?

Tampering obviously is against the rules in the NBA. However, who’s to say that Jayson Tatum didn’t have some in-depth conversations with Beal during their time with Team USA?

Brad Stevens could be playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers. It may be unlikely but never say never in the NBA.
