What we are seeing this offseason from the Boston Celtics is somewhat unprecedented, but overwhelmingly entertaining, even if all of the wheeling and dealing done hasn’t yet convinced fans the 2021-22 season has banner #18 potential.

Danny Ainge retired and stepped down from a position (general manager) he had held since 2003. For reference, In Da Club by 50 Cent was the #1 song in America the last time Ainge wasn’t in charge of the Cs player movement.

The head coach then became the President of Basketball Operations, and to take it a step further, Brad Stevens is now bringing back several former players of his.

With Al Horford and Enes Kanter both back in the fold, it’s clear that Stevens is embracing the past (that he was apart of) and looking to use familiarity to get the Cs off to a headstart after an offseason of change for several contenders in the East.

Miami has added a ton of top-tier talent and looks more dangerous than the 2019-20 Eastern Conference Championship squad while Brooklyn is returning its healthy superstars and adding both high-upside youth and cool veteran hands to its locker room.

The Cs need to react before being left in the dust, and these 3 reunions could help bring Boston back to the good old days of 2016-2020 and out of the 2020-21 season-long malaise they were trapped in:

Boston Celtics reunion #1 we could see: Aron Baynes

The Aussie big man is a free agent after a forgettable year with the Toronto Tampa Raptors, and while Stevens has already brought back two of his former centers, adding one more (with superior rim protection) could safeguard against the possibility that Robert Williams continues to miss time regularly.

Baynes is likely in the market for a one-year deal to rehabilitate his value and cash in next summer when teams have more money to spend.
