Boston Celtics need #2: Backup rim protector
Free-agent to fill the need: Aron Baynes
As terrorizing as Robert Williams is as a shot-blocker and rim-runner, it is also scary thinking about what would happen if he missed any extended period of time this coming season.
Al Horford is solid as an on-ball defender, but he has never been known as someone who opposing players would need to avoid en route to the rim. Enes Kanter is to being a fearsome rim protector as Carole Baskin is to being sincere.
So luckily, with Brad Stevens being so infatuated with bringing back every big man he ever coached, recently released former Celtic Aron Baynes could be the next to return to his green glory in Beantown.
Baynes was the C’s main tool against Giannis Antetokounmpo–who by way of winning the NBA Championship, is now someone you need to gameplan for–and was effective when sharing the floor with Horford.
Having a fortified frontcourt could come in handy in hypothetical matchups against the Los Angeles Lakers or Philadelphia 76ers in deep postseason matchups…assuming Philly could ever get to the conference finals to begin with.
