As the free agency moratorium is beginning, the end has commenced for certain members of the Boston Celtics roster. With Brad Stevens now in control of player movement, he could place new pros into the puzzle.

On the flip side, some Cs he coached will now be disposed of by their old HC. Awkward.

Business is business, though. Players know what they’re getting into, and Stevens in particular signed up for a job he knew would result in some uncomfortable phone calls and meetings in his office.

So far, Stevens has gotten rid of his max contract point guard (Kemba Walker), his starting center (Tristan Thompson), and his starting wing in the postseason (Evan Fournier) by way of not matching a pretty massive offer from the New York Knicks.

Now, the fringes of the roster will be the next to see some longtime bonds broken. At least some relationships won’t be quite as tenured. And hey, as a silver lining, Stevens could well be closing some doors for these guys so that some great new ones could open.
