Boston Celtics free agent target No. 3) Patty Mills

As we mentioned in the previous slide, the point guard position for the Boston Celtics is easily considered the team’s weakest at the moment and, this offseason, the front office must look into addressing it.

One name that has been viewed as a serious option for the team ever since Ime Udoka took over as head coach is veteran guard, Patty Mills.

The connection between both Udoka and Mills dates back to their tenure with the San Antonio Spurs and are reported to have built a nice bond during their time spent together.

At 32-years-old (33 once the season begins), the point guard would be a fantastic veteran presence at the one while his championship (won title in 2014 with Spurs) and overall postseason experience would be of even greater use to this talented yet young Cs core.

Though by no means a star, Mills is a sound pick and roll operator and a consistent shooter from long-range.

This past season, the 12-year veteran posted solid per-game averages of 10.8 points and 2.4 assists on 41 percent shooting from the floor and 37.5 percent shooting from deep.

Is he the “answer” to Boston’s point guard woes? Absolutely not.

However, his addition to the rotation in a reserve role would not only help improve upon a bench scoring unit that ranked 28th in points per game and just 23rd in offensive rating, but also help the rest of the team buy into Udoka’s new system as he looks to be yet another success story that has branched off of the Popovich tree.
