Boston Celtics: 3 players Cs could sign during first week of free agency

Boston Celtics free agent target No. 2) Kelly Olynyk
Despite the fact that Brad Stevens has actually made some pretty solid moves thus far into the offseason to better bolster the team’s roster heading into next year, they still find themselves with multiple holes within their rotation that need to be addressed.
Outside of their point guard situation, perhaps the most barren position for the Boston Celtics resides within their frontcourt and, more specifically, their power forward rotation.
If 2019-20 is any indicator, based on how this current roster is made up, the starting four for the shamrocks will likely be All-Star Jayson Tatum which, obviously, is a great sight to see for, during his lone season manning this spot full-time, he posted stellar averages of 23.4 points and seven boards on 45 percent shooting from the floor and 40 percent shooting from deep.
However, beyond their young-stud, Boston is rather lacking when it comes to other quality options to take on the position.
Sure, they have the likes of Al Horford and Grant Williams, but the former is not all that comfortable when playing power forward — his time in Philadelphia proved this to be the case — and the latter… well, we can’t rely on a generously measured 6-6 youngster taking on large chunks of minutes as the position’s primary backup.
Instead, we at the site believe the front office should strongly consider pursuing some other options available in this year’s free agency class and one name that certainly comes to mind as a possible option is the former Celtic himself, Kelly Olynyk.
Last suiting up for the Rockets this past campaign, the 29-year-old thrived during his 27-game stint serving as Houston’s starting four. In 31.1 minutes a night, Olynyk posted impressive averages of 19 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists on 54.5 percent shooting from the floor and 39 percent shooting from deep.
Not only would bringing back the eight-year veteran be a nice feel-good storyline — for even after leaving the franchise originally he held onto his home in Charlestown — but it would also aid in the team’s lacking size within their frontcourt rotation (Olynyk measures in at 6-11, 24-pounds).
The big man would be a great player for this team to consider pursuing this offseason and word on the street is he’s already been listed as a ‘priority’ target.
