Boston Celtics MLE point guard pursuit #3: Patty Mills

This target feels the most likely to end up in green when it is all said and done. Patty Mills is an international stud with that ever valuable Ime Udoka experience, but he is the kind of veteran that is less likely to steal the show than the others.

Reggie Jackson is coming off of a deep postseason run, so it is quite possible he ends up domineering the ball in a way that made Cs fans not miss Kyrie Irving as much when he bolted for Brooklyn.

Spencer Dinwiddie could be playing for his next deal already, being the most likely to sign a short-term deal. The way he was playing before injury could have garnered a much higher payday, so a second-year player option is the most likely result of a potential pact with the G-League success story.

Mills has the least spectacular recent numbers, making him the most likely to take less than the full MLE. The potential of divvying up that spending money among multiple free agents makes Mills a player strongly worth considering.

Stevens has done a nice job of building depth, but a point guard eager to steal the show could undermine all of it. Considering the flack Marcus Smart gets for his hero-ball tendencies, we’d likely have the same feeling towards Dinwiddie and Jackson…and not Mills.
