Boston Celtics: 3 players that could be available by trade after 2021 NBA Draft
Player #3 Boston Celtics could trade for: Derrick White
With Joshua Primo of the University of Alabama selected with the #12 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, one must think the Dejounte Murray-Derrick White rumors will probably resurface.
Primo is direct competition to White and depending on the Spurs’ direction, it may make sense to move off of the extension they handed him this past December. While White’s $73 million deal sounds hefty, it isn’t one that will be hard to cobble up assets for.
In fact, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Robert Williams wouldn’t even need to be included. Tristan Thompson’s deal–combined with several lower cap figures–could be combined with whatever draft considerations it would take to get the deal across the finish line.
White’s 36% conversion rate could potentially rise with more talent around him, but he creates enough offense to justify his shooting percentages as it is now. He’d be a fine addition to the second unit or the starting five as a capable combo guard.
His presence would make Evan Fournier redundant, and given the possible price point of the Frenchman, White could end up providing better value at his salary-cap figure.
The cherry on top is White’s time with Ime Udoka in San Antonio during the new Cs head coach’s tenure with the Spurs.
