#2 best Ricky Rubio destination: Boston Celtics
The Celtics have options at the point guard, but we’re not too dense to realize that Ricky Rubio is a better option than all of them. His brilliant Olympics performance this morning (by all American time zones) against Argentinia showed he is still brilliant on the floor despite a lackluster in Minnesota.
Boston has added a center who can facilitate in Al Horford, and bringing in one of the league’s best passers would solidify the unit as one with explosive playmaking potential. Given Ime Udoka’s attention was on the C’s lack of assists in 2020-21, one would think that Rubio would be a perfect panacea.
The only potential drawback is the price. If the Wolves don’t want to take back Tristan Thompson, Smart would need to be included. If the Cs won’t part with Smart, then it could take a boatload of draft picks to get something done.
Ultimately, there could be room for a deal, but there isn’t an obvious one to be made that isn’t considered an overpay on the C’s part.
