First-round talent the Boston Celtics could draft No. 2) Joe Wieskamp

Joe Wieskamp proved to be a solid player for the Iowa Hawkeyes during his three-year stay with the program, and his performance during the 2020-21 campaign proved that he has the skill set necessary to thrive as a role player at the next level.

Through 31 games played, the two guard went about and posted averages of 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on 49 percent shooting from the field and a whopping 46 percent shooting from deep and, with his performance, earned Second-team All Big-Ten honors.

Arguably the best shooter in this year’s class, the 21-year-old would be an absolute luxury for this Boston Celtics team’s second unit that struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball this past season, ranking 28th in points per game and just 23rd in offensive rating.

Consistently compared to the likes of Kevin Huerter and Luke Kennard (both of whom were top-20 picks in their respective drafts) with some even going as far as to say he’s reminiscent of Miami Heat sharpshooter, Dunan Robinson, the idea of the Boston Celtics landing Wieskamp in this year’s draft is very appealing, however, they may have to either be lucky or move up to get him.

After his impressive NBA Draft combine, the wing has seemingly caught the attention of a plethora of teams in need of a sniper. In fact, due to his excellence at the combine and in pre-draft workouts, a recent mock by CBS Sports saw Wieskamp going 30th overall to the Utah Jazz.

That said, a mock draft posted by NBC Sports at around the same time had the two-guard heading straight to Boston at 45, so it truly is anyone’s guess as to where he’ll wind up landing.

However, should he wind up being available even just a few slots ahead of where the Celtics are slated to select, they should strongly consider moving up to grab him.
