Boston Celtics: 3 ways to get Bradley Beal to Beantown
Bradley Beal tells potential suitors that he only wants the Boston Celtics
The only real attainable way to get Beal, which is simultaneously the least realistic, would be for him to come out and say that he is only interested in going to the Boston Celtics.
If he were to say this, and imply that he will only be interested in re-signing with the Cs in the 2022-23 offseason, it would in turn put a “rental” tag on him for other potential suitors.
We have seen other teams take a chance on rentals before, some even working — 2019 Toronto Raptors –, but it would 100% lower his trade value.
Not as many teams are going to want to give up their future in order to get one year of a barely top-20 player.
Teams like Philly or Miami, who would most likely have young stars on the table, would most likely back out. The Golden State Warriors might still be willing to take a chance, and trade their lottery picks and Wiggins, but even then it’s doubtful.
That would leave the Boston Celtics to make a significantly decreased deal.
Something like Smart, Thompson, Langford, Pritchard, multiple future firsts in return for Beal. It is a sad reality for the Wizards to get such little in return for a player of his magnitude but, for Boston, this is the dream scenario.
The Cs wouldn’t have to mortgage their future, are able to keep Jaylen Brown, and still retain cap flexibility. They would also acquire the Bird rights of Beal, allowing them to now go deep into the luxury to keep the Big-3 and actually assemble a competent team around them.
Whatever does happen with the future of Bradley Beal will be known soon, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up Celtics fans, for we will have to jump through some hoops to get him.
