Boston Celtics pair Tatum and Beal… but Brown is the odd man out

Now I know what your thinking — the whole point of this is to get a Big-3 on the Boston Celtics, and you’re right.

However, there is no denying this is the easiest way to get Beal himself. What you sacrifice in youth, defense, and contract flexibility, you gain in playmaking and scoring with Beal.

Personally, I would not do this type of trade, as I don’t think it makes enough sense. It feels like a lateral move, one that keeps the Cs in the lower-tier of contenders.

The goal is to be title contenders, and it seems one of the only ways to achieve this nowadays is with three stars, as opposed to two.

The Celtics would put themselves right back in the same spot trading two similarly ranked players.

Beal might be the superior player to Brown as of now, however, the former makes significantly more money, is a worse defender, and Brown is still getting better every single year.

Jaylen Brown is an ever-improving 24-year-old All-Star who is an exceptional defender and is unbelievably efficient. He is the prototypical two-way wing that is so sought after in today’s NBA.

It would be a mistake to trade him for Beal.

Virtually the only pro of this deal would be that Tatum and Beal would most likely fit better together, as they are friends as well as more of a guard-forward duo.

Beal and Tatum could run some pretty exciting pick-and-rolls, as both have some explosiveness and athleticism.

The chemistry would be there, probably more so than there is with Tatum and Brown despite all their experience with each other.

At times, Tatum and Brown can feel a bit redundant when on the court together. They have similar, shot-creating styles of play and with neither being an exceptional playmaker, it may even hinder them.

But to conclude, this is not a deal the Boston Celtics should be looking to make, and in a recent podcast with Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe, it appears the Cs feel the same way.
