Boston Celtics part with Thompson and Langford for a new starting point guard

In the hypothetical scenario that the Boston Celtics opt to trade for the likes of Eric Bledsoe, they should only be willing to do so if it means parting ways with relatively replaceable and not-so valuable commodities — unless they can snag a draft pick, of course… but more on that later.

Here, we see the Cs package together a deal involving Tristan Thompson and Romeo Langford heading to the Big Easy along with a 2021 second-rounder and a future second for the veteran point guard.

Due to their apparent desire to part ways with Bledsoe seemingly all season, nabbing him in a deal shouldn’t be that hard to accomplish, which is why we don’t find it all that far-fetched to believe that a trade centered around a former NBA Champion and a soon to be third-year former lottery pick would be ok’d by this young and playoff-hopeful Pelicans team.

Obviously, Boston would land the 11-year baller to come in and share starting backcourt duties with whomever they opt to roll out at guard — could be Marcus Smart but, frankly, perhaps slotting Jaylen Brown or Evan Fournier there may be more complimentary to Bledsoe’s skill-set, thus leaving Smart to serve as the team’s Sixth-Man extraordinaire.

Based on his 2020-21 season performance, many are incredibly down on the veteran and his ability to still contribute at a high level, but often it is forgotten that, for the first time since establishing himself as a bonafide starter, he served out of position full-time at shooting guard in New Orleans.

In this role, however, he still wound up producing rather well, posting 12.2 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 34 percent from deep on five attempts per game.

A 2x NBA All-Defensive player, Bledsoe would be a stellar compliment to Smart on the less glamorous side of the ball while his experience serving next to Giannis Antetokounmpo during his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks proves that he has proven more than capable of serving next to a superstar forward, which is what he’d obviously be doing with the Cs next to Tatum and Brown.

Parting ways with two players who may be on their way out anyway for a legitimate starting point guard isn’t the worst move to make if the front office can’t find another way to fill the hole at the one.
