Why the Boston Celtics do it

This deal would give the Cs a major boost on the offensive end while sacrificing a ton on the defensive end. As long as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are in the lineup, the defense will never be a bottom-tier unit.

Perhaps Al Horford could be a major panacea for a defense that lost its way last season, but Ime Udoka’s presence could be just as, if not more, important for the team’s turnaround. So rolling the dice and buying low for two potential 20-point-per-game scorers in one fell swoop could be the kind of risk new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens needs to take in his first season in charge of the front office.

Why the Cleveland Cavaliers do it

This deal is one that could end up really working out for Cleveland if they choose to embrace Darius Garland as their lead floor general and Jarrett Allen, Dean Wade, and Cedi Osman in the frontcourt.

The youth is the way forward in the Land, but Marcus Smart and Al Horford are two veterans that could help the team become competitive and play with an edge on both ends of the floor. Adding two second-round picks instead of a first is the price for Love and Sexton’s values plummeting.
