Ideal fit for Tremont Waters No. 2) OKC Thunder

Speaking of the benefits of playing for a developmental presence, Oklahoma City’s head honcho, Mark Daigneault, has five seasons of experience under his belt as a G League coach (was with the OKC Blue from 2014-19) and now, with the Thunder, he’s essentially serving the same purpose but with an NBA team.

Prioritizing a youth movement, Tremont Waters could receive plenty of opportunities to show his worth in the Sooner State and, with the buzz coming out suggesting that General Manager, Sam Presti, is actively looking to flip Walker, it could make a ton of sense for these two parties to link up.

Despite having rising star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at their disposal, the team’s backcourt is still in need of more talent and their starting point guard position, in specific, is perceived as the spot that most desperately needs to be addressed.

Now, while their hope all season was to tank in order to land a top-3 pick and, in turn, nab a young answer at the one via the draft — ideally Cade Cunningham, Jalen Suggs, etc. –, ultimately they did not turn out to be so lucky, as they find themselves as current holders of the sixth overall pick, making them likely to miss out on their preferred point guard prospects.

Because of this, the tank continues for the franchise, which means winning is far from their biggest desire, thus making the idea of Waters seeing ample time on the court that much greater.

If opportunity is what he longs for, Oklahoma City may provide him exactly that.
