Ideal fit for Tremont Waters No. 1) Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors just had quite an upsetting regular season campaign and their offseason could prove to be similarly as disappointing, especially when it comes to the expiring contracts for two of their top backcourt talents in Kyle Lowry and Gary Trent Jr.

Both are slated to be highly sought after on the open market after having impressive individual seasons and, in turn, could be pried away by more desirable destinations or by more desirable paydays.

Because of this, Toronto could be in need of extra assets to fill out their guard rotation and, being that they rarely garner the attention of top-billed players in free agency, they could look to pursue lesser-name talents on cheaper deals to either keep their books clean moving forward or, simply, to try and find a diamond in the rough.

Either way, Tremont Waters could be an ideal player for the Raptors to target, especially if they wind up missing out on a top-tier guard prospect with their fourth overall selection in this year’s draft.

Already proving capable of having stupendous success with smaller point guards (Ex. Lowry, Fred VanVleet) as well as experience with developing players — served as a D League head coach from 2007-13 and won D-League Coach of the Year in 2011 — Nick Nurse could be a fantastic voice in the ear of Waters should he ultimately opt to leave the Boston Celtics.

On top of this, as we mentioned earlier on, with the fact that they could be losing two of their top options within their backcourt, the opportunity for Waters to collect minutes alongside VanVleet could be optimal, and the tutelage he could bestow to the third-year pro as a former G Leaguer himself could prove to be unbelievably valuable in the long-run.
