Improvement #3 to the Boston Celtics passing: Utilize Al Horford and Robert Williams

As of right now, all anyone can do is speculate what moves Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics will make after going 500 and losing in the first round of the playoffs. There’s no way of knowing what free agents they will target, who they will trade for, who they will extend, and what the team will look like at the start of next season.

However, with the current roster, we can assume a couple of things. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be the best players, and Robert Williams and Al Horford will be an intricate part of the Boston Celtics revamped offense.

This past season we saw Robert Williams paint prowess through all the alley-oops and posters he threw down, but his passing is what stuck out the most to me. Williams has an exceptional touch and even better vision when he gets stuck under the rim.

Unlike Tristan Thompson, Williams rarely looks to force the ball through the teeth of the defense, which allows him to see the floor easier. Williams kicks the ball out in a timely, fast, and accurate manner, creating great looks from the three-point line for Boston.

Horford has made a career out of passing the ball. Back when he was with the Celtics, he often played the role of primary facilitator and was tasked with creating quality shots for the Celtics perimeter players.

Even at 35, Big Al is still one of the best passers at his position, and that’s a big reason why Brad Stevens brought him in. He can find guys out of the post, at the top of the key, in the post, or on the low block. Horford is a very versatile and intelligent passer, and the Celtics will need every one of his tricks to succeed.

Ime Udoka needs to leverage Robert Williams and Al Horford’s passing between Boston Celtics’ talent. Designing routes around their rolls, post-ups, and dribble handoffs will make the Celtics’ offense as deadly as it seems on paper. They’ll create efficient shots and keep the defense guessing what’s next.

These 3 superstars could be pursued by the Cs this summer. dark. Next
