Boston Celtics Damian Lillard threat #2: Miami Heat

Miami just had a very similar season to Boston. Both teams made it the farthest out of everyone in the east in the 2020 playoffs and, as a result, it seemed the lack of offseason recovery time had a heavy toll on their players.

Because of that, we saw the Heat and Celtics finish 6th and 7th in the east, respectively.

Now that the offseason has arrived, both teams are getting healthy and are now looking to make that big move to push for finals contention yet again.

And after infamously refusing to put some of their young players into a trade offer for James Harden when he was requesting a trade, I don’t think the Heat will make the same mistake twice.

So Miami would be left with a big three of Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo assuming some combination of their younger assets and picks could get the deal done.

This too would be a scary sight for Boston.

We saw in that eastern conference finals from 2020 that the Heat have the Boston Celtics’ number. Both teams were great defensively as it was Bam Adebayo who emerged as the best player in the series.

Then, if you add a superstar point guard that can score at will, even more pressure is put on the Cs both offensively and defensively.

Similar to Philadelphia, the guard position was where the Celtics were able to win against the Heat but this would obviously change.

Not to mention, late-game scenarios become even tougher as well because Miami would actually have a legit scoring threat that could go get them a clutch basket when needed. Another aspect that the Celtics have had the edge over them in recent years.

In essence, Dame would be a huge upgrade to Miami’s current rotation of Goran Dragic and Kendrick Nunn.
