New Orleans Pelicans – Lonzo Ball, PG

Since the beginning of the season, I’ve been an advocate for the Boston Celtics doing whatever they can to acquire New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball.

Ball has been the main free agent I was thinking about when I started this series.

The fourth-year baller is the perfect point guard for the Cs, for he’s a defensive juggernaut who can stretch the floor and provide valuable size at a historically small position.

His playmaking ability is one of the best in the NBA and he’s the definition of a “pass first” point guard. Coming off having Kemba Walker as the primary ball-handler, it’ll be refreshing having a true playmaker running the floor.

Ball could easily fill the role that Rajon Rondo did over a decade ago, but with a more reliable jumper.

His playmaking ability will complement Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown nicely as he won’t be taking away their touches and instead will be constantly feeding them the rock. Ball would be a great player to pair alongside Marcus Smart for a defensive backcourt should the team lean that way.

The former second overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers has really blossomed into a star after getting traded to New Orleans.

He’s taken a step forward in his career every season and is expected to make a huge jump next year. With rumors that Lonzo is looking to play for a team in a larger market, the Celtics are definitely on the table. With the Kemba Walker trade going down, Ball now fills a need and it makes sense for the team to pursue him.
