Boston Celtics: 5 free agents to pursue from the Southwest division
By Nick Swanson
Memphis Grizzlies – Justise Winslow, SF
When the Miami Heat drafted Justise Winslow 10th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, there were high hopes that he could be a key contributor for the future corps of the team.
Those hopes were quickly dashed as he made the transition to the NBA and looked ineffective early. Late in his tenure with Miami, we saw the birth of “Point Justise” and it appeared to be a revitalization of his career.
He was never able to capitalize on that momentum as he was soon traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Andre Iguodala trade. Ever since arriving in Memphis, Winslow has been a non-factor. He only appeared in 26 games for the Grizzlies and only started one of them.
While he hasn’t found success in Miami or Memphis, it may be time for a fresh start with a more disciplined team.
Brad Stevens and Ime Udoka at the helm make Boston, once again, an appealing free agency destination. Winslow won’t be one of the premier guys asking for a long-term deal with a ton of money.
Depending on what market there is for him, the Boston Celtics could be a frontrunner.
Winslow would be a great piece off the bench. His streaky shooting is what you’d prefer from a bench player rather than in one of your starters.
He has underrated playmaking abilities and is a solid defender. He can still be a quality bench piece or a low-end starter depending on the situation.
Should the Celtics pull the trigger, they’ll be one step closer to the Finals.
