Houston Rockets – D.J. Wilson, PF

After a very unsuccessful stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, fourth-year forward D.J. Wilson was traded to the Houston Rockets along with D.J. Augustin in the P.J. Tucker deal early in the 2020-21 NBA season.

In Wilson’s 142 games played, he’s started a mere five of them.

After averaging only 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds through his 119 games in Milwaukee it was obviously time for a fresh start. He had the best statistical stretch of his career in Houston after the trade.

Wilson won’t be a huge difference-maker, but he’ll be a cheap, young option to run some backup power forward minutes if the Boston Celtics decide to move on from Grant Williams and Semi Ojeleye.

He’s an average 3-point shooting four who has only had one true outlier season in 2019.

The Rockets don’t have a ton of quality free agents for this upcoming season, but Wilson still has a little bit of potential left in him at only 24 years old. Wilson won’t have a huge market once he hits free agency so the Boston Celtics would be able to sign him to a longer contract for relatively cheap.

He’s by no means a premier free agent but I do think that he could prosper in Ime Udoka’s system and in the Celtics culture.

Should the C’s sign Wilson, he’ll be a valuable piece in the bench rotation and will improve on the current terrible excuse for depth at the power forward position.
