Boston Celtics: 3 free agent bigs that fit better than Tristan Thompson

Boston Celtics big man option No. 3) Paul Millsap
Though the Boston Celtics ultimately signed Tristan Thompson to a two-year, $19 million contract last offseason, prior to this transaction they were in play for another big man at a similar pay-day.
That player: Paul Millsap.
According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, the Cs showed “strong interest” in signing the veteran power forward while Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reported that the Celtics were “at the top of Paul Millsap’s list” during the heat of 2020’s free agency period.
At the end of the day, however, the big man opted to run it back with the Denver Nuggets on a one-year, $10 million deal.
Now, an offseason removed, Millsap once again finds himself hitting the open market as an unrestricted free agent and, should the Cs be interested, they’ll have another shot at bringing aboard the seasoned baller.
To us at HH, if he’s willing to sign for somewhere in the veteran’s minimum range, such an idea is a no-brainer for the Boston Celtics.
This past season, Millsap quietly proved to still be a quality contributor in the association, posting nine points and snatching just under five boards a game on 48 percent shooting from the floor in 20.8 minutes of action.
Being that the Celtics still could use for more depth at the four spot, in limited action, adding a guy like Millsap (who, again, fills Stevens’ desire to add veterans) could prove to be a quality move for a title-hopeful team like Boston.
