Boston Celtics award-winner #3: MVP – Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum is a bona fide superstar. All it would take for him to have a serious chance at MVP is for the Boston Celtics to be a top seed.

Last season he averaged the best numbers of his career thus far. He put up 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

With Kemba Walker gone, he’ll have to take on an even larger role on offense. This could lead to yet another statistical jump next year.

It’s no secret that Tatum is a lethal scorer from everywhere on the court. If he can bump his scoring numbers up to around 30 points per game, that’ll put him directly into MVP conversations.

In addition, he showed some real promise as a playmaker last year. This could result in his assist numbers taking a leap as well.

Outside of Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard, the C’s don’t have any real point guards on the roster. This means Tatum could have to take on some of the primary ball-handler duties.

The MVP award is all about being the best player on one of the best teams. Tatum is already the best player on the Celtics, now he just needs the team to have a better record.

If the Boston Celtics can jump back up to the top of the conference next year, Tatum should find himself in the running for MVP. After that, it’s all about the numbers.

Next. Pass or pursue on rumored Jaylen Brown trade targets. dark
