Boston Celtics: 3 moves that would ruin C’s offseason
By Mark Nilon
Boston Celtics bad move No. 3) Trading for a low value, fallen star
The Boston Celtics have been quite an active team thus far into the offseason, and easily the most noteworthy move they’ve made has been the Kemba Walker trade to OKC.
With this transaction, the Cs managed to bolster a depleted position at the pivot (brought back Al Horford) while simultaneously weakening an already weak position at the one.
Now, as we mosey along towards the heart of the summer, Stevens will almost certainly be looking to make a few more moves.
Between now and October 19th, there are bound to be several talents listed on the open market, some of which being rather big names with low values attached to them, such as Kevin Love and John Wall.
While there are some who believe the Celtics could, and in some instances should go after players of this ilk, it is the Houdini’s personal belief that Stevens should steer clear of making such a brash decision.
Yes, the concept of getting someone like Wall, who is a career 19.1 point and 9.1 assist player who is a 5x All-Star at a position of great need on the low may seem intruiging on paper, but the cap hit that a hypothetical move such as this would make for Boston would derail, not just their 2021 offseason plans, but those for the next several as well.
While, personally, I believe guys like Wall and Love are deserving of a playoff-hopeful team taking a chance on them moving forward, the Boston Celtics should not be one of them — at least, not when it comes to the trade route.
