Tristan Thompson goes home, Boston Celtics add wing depth

This is the one trade that could potentially be a straight swap. The Raptors get a better backup center and the Boston Celtics improve their wing depth.

Rodney Hood had a tough year shooting the ball last season. He shot just 36.2 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from deep.

However, this down year is only one season removed from when he shot 49.3 percent from deep in the 2019-20 season.

In a limited role, he could still be a decent option for the Cs.

He’s been a 10+ point per game scorer for the majority of his career. Even if he didn’t wind up reaching that mark in Boston, he would still put some more shooting next to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The real upside of this trade, though, is that the Boston Celtics get rid of a center and add a wing.

For the Raptors, this would simply be an upgrade at the backup five.

Chris Boucher should be their starting center next season. Since Aron Baynes had a tough year last season, Toronto could be in the market for a backup big.

Thompson is from Canada, so this move makes sense on so many levels. Thompson gets to play in his country of origin, the Raptors get another big, and the Celtics bolster their wing rotation.
