Boston Celtics young star target No. 5) Zach LaVine

After trading two of their franchise big men and two first-round picks for Nikola Vucevic, the Chicago Bulls have locked themselves into the playoff hunt until the big comes off the books.

The dilemma is they are not good enough to make the playoffs.

They’re kind of like the Utah Jazz in this respect but much worse. They can’t trade for any big-name stars to pair with LaVine and Vucevic because they sent most of their assets out and don’t have the cap space to sign anyone for the same reason.

That Vucevic trade severely derailed Chicago’s long-term goals, which could directly impact LaVine’s decision to stay with the franchise long-term.

The 26-year-old is coming off of a career season and will be a free agent next summer.

With the Boston Celtics already likely eyeing Beal and Curry, LaVine could make an excellent plan C if Boston misses their top two prospects.

Stevens would have to clear the same amount of cap space for LaVine and arrange to do so in a sign-and-trade with the Bulls.

However, Jaylen Brown would not have to be traded in this instance, meaning Boston would be putting themselves in line to form a very formidable Big 3.

The Celtics would have to part ways with at least two of Marcus Smart, Evan Fournier, and Robert Williams.

If they can keep Smart and Horford, the defense won’t be a problem. If they have to part ways with Smart, there are many defensive guards on the market the Cs could acquire for cheap.

The fact remains, if LaVine becomes available, Boston needs to put themselves on his radar before anyone else gets to him.
