Boston Celtics: 5 disgruntled young stars Cs could free in the future
By Chris Conte
Boston Celtics young star target No. 4) De’Aaron Fox
The Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves are not so different.
They have hit on draft picks, and their core is not inherently bad, but it’s not good enough to be a playoff or even play-in caliber team.
Their defense is so poor and they lack even average coaching. So long as Luke Walton is with the Kings, they will never see the playoffs.
Even if Haliburton, Fox, Davis, and Holmes all develop into what the Kings hope, they won’t sniff a top 10 seed.
That’s if Holmes even re-signs, which might not even happen.
So, if Holmes walks, the Kings are left with no pick and roll partner for Fox and no defense to help him sustain a winning record.
All this is the perfect storm for the point guard to demand a trade from the Kings.
The Boston Celtics would have to make some moves to clear up cap space for De’Aaron Fox’s $30+ million salary, which stretches into 2026, but it would be worth it.
Since Brown is already better than Fox and will likely remain that way, Boston can avoid trading Tatum’s wingman and creating a Big 3.
Fox’s playmaking would fit nicely beside the Jays and, hopefully, his shot will be developed by then.
With Fox, the Cs need to make sure they have one or two young assets they can pair with multiple first-round picks to trade for him.
These players could be Robert Williams and Romeo Langford if they develop to the fullest extent of their potential.
Or it could be one of Boston’s other future draft picks — there’s no way of knowing right now.
All that matters is that Boston is prepared and has the assets to acquire him.
