Reason #3 Ime Udoka-Boston Celtics hire was a home run: Schematic changes

It took no time for Ime Udoka to take his new boss President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens to task for the lack of success the Cs experienced last season.

Check out this gutsy comment about the team’s passing (or lack thereof) in 2020-21:

Calling out your new boss publicly in your introductory press conference? The legend of Udoka grows after bringing Nia Long to Beantown with him.

Last season’s team suffered from the lack of consistent outside scoring from their non-stars, and the offense often boiled down into watching Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown create something from nothing out of isolation sets.

It’s doubtful that problem will persist considering the new Cs HC addressed it the very first chance he could. Depending on what happens in free agency or through the trade market, his job may become easier assuming acquiring a capable playmaker is as important to Stevens as it is to us.

Either way, though, even if they don’t land a facilitator this summer, convincing his guys to play together as one and getting them to buy into his schemes is half the battle…and I’m not betting against him falling short of achieving that goal in year one.
