HH is elated that the new Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens, went in a bold new direction with the hiring of also new head Ime Udoka.

Udoka scratches several itches in what the team was searching for in a leading voice.

Primarily, the voice of a former player will control a locker room that has been out of control through two different eras of superstar point guards. Even when the team was on the doorstep of the NBA Finals down in the Lake Buena Vista bubble down in Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex, there were heated arguments taking place behind closed doors.

Now, a former player who took the long road through international waters to make it to the association will be the leader of men to a young-ish core that is maturing to the age of calling their own shots.

The Cs need tangible team achievements to keep their stars happy, and rolling the dice on a coach that was part of the east’s #2 seed–and a team that just battered Boston in a gentleman’s sweep during the 2021 postseason–in former Nets assistant Ime Udoka is the kind of move that could change the trajectory of a team that has had the talent, but has lacked that something extra to get them over the top.

Being that Udoka was undrafted and had to re-establish himself as an NBA player, his entire career was defined by that something extra.

Obviously, the job isn’t done on Stevens’ part. Acquiring Al Horford doesn’t put a rocket on the back of the Boston Celtics and propel them to the top. Not in this current Eastern Conference where super-teams in Brooklyn and Milwaukee (and…Atlanta? Definitely not Philly…) reign supreme.

But with a new voice, one that players could relate to rather than a head coach who made his name in the college game, the team is almost certainly going to be doing the little things (closing out on 3-point shooters to start) at a higher rate.

We’re excited about the head coaching hire, and our opinion is shared by the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’s 7th congressional district, Ayanna Pressley:

Pressley is right as far as the Houdini can see. Udoka slander has not been detected on our timelines. Cs fans love the hiring too.

The 2021-22 season can’t come soon enough.
