Boston Celtics: Determining the fate of 7 young Cs
By Jack Simone
Carsen Edwards
Grade: D
The Carsen Edwards experiment has officially failed.
When the Boston Celtics drafted him, the hope was for him to be a spark plug off the bench.
That did not happen.
Edwards has struggled to shoot the ball efficiently and is too small to be an effective defender. On top of that, there are too many guards ahead of him in the rotation.
The issue is, he has a couple of years left on his contract. Don’t be surprised if Brad Stevens trades him for next to nothing in order to open up a roster spot.

Tremont Waters
Grade: D+
Tremont Waters arguably showed more potential than Edwards in his time with the Cs. Though he may be tiny, his playmaking abilities really shine through.
That being said, similarly to Edwards, he has struggled to shoot the ball well in Boston. Waters has been on a two-way contract for the past two seasons and his time with the team could be up.
The Celtics would have to delegate an actual roster spot to keep Waters on the team next season.
With Stevens wanting to prioritize signing more veterans, Waters will likely not get that spot.
Chance to be on the 2021-22 roster: 5%
Tacko Fall
Grade: D-
It’s impossible not to love Tacko Fall.
The guy is constantly happy and working hard towards earning a roster spot. The unfortunate reality is that he just isn’t ready.
Being 7-5 only gets you so far, and Fall just hasn’t developed into a real NBA player yet. It was worth a shot, but ultimately he just can’t keep up with NBA centers.
If the Boston Celtics could bring him back on another two-way deal there might be an argument to do so, but he would have to take up a real roster spot.
At that point, Stevens should give the spot to someone who can actually get real NBA minutes.
